A wish. A waterfall. A tragic outcome. Can one girl save her best friend from herself? Or will she have to sacrifice their friendship?
Wheezy doesn’t have a lot in common with her best friend, Lumpy, but he makes her laugh. It breaks her heart that people tease him over his appearance. When she meets a strange little gnome-elf who promises her one wish, she makes her wish for Lumpy.
But tragedy strikes immediately after and Lumpy ends up recovering in a hospital faraway. While Wheezy worries she’s responsible for his circumstances, she also revels in how much closer they are becoming as pen pals.
When Lumpy returns to The Tales completely transformed into a new person on the outside, Wheezy knows he won’t want to remain her best friend. And she has no one to blame but herself – and her wish.
Can Wheezy learn to like the handsome Lumpy or is she destined for a future alone?

Lessons in growing up, responsibility, loyalty, love, and a little magic intertwine flawlessly in a surprisingly fun read! I was lucky enough to buy an autographed copy from the author!
My Review: Eloise and Lumpy are good friends who are made fun of by the other kids. Eloise, or Wheezy as the kids called her wander off the road into the trees on the Hollerhead property to avoid being a spectacle. She jumped when she heard an unexpected voice. Then she saw a small blue creature who stepped into the sunshine. She screamed and told the creature to stand where he was. He introduced himself as Unwanted and famous. He told her that he can grant wishes. He said to her, just one wish in exchange for the bottle of chocolate milk. If she could make one wish what would it be? She would make that wish for her fat friend who was always eating candy. So she wished people would see Lawrence Nightingale like she does. So Unwanted granted her wish.It turns out her wish didn't quite go the way she expected. While they were out, Lumpy almost die, when he fell head first into the frigid water. He was taken to Paris as the hospital there has better equipment to handle his type of injury. Wheezy felt guilty and wonder if he would return. Would she be able to amend their friendships? This book is very educational, we have to be grateful for what we have and who we are. We are not God, so we should be careful not to judge the physical appearance of others. And be careful what you wish for.FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.
A book that’s riveting, a book that’s gripping, and a book that’s rewarding is Kai Strand’s The Lumpy Duckling. When first getting started this book provides the reader with necessary background information which might not draw a reader right into the book, but it would be a big mistake not to keep reading, because this book gets exciting with mystery and want of more detail. There is a friendship between two young kids, Eloise Talemaker, who is affectionately called Sneezy Wheezy, or Wheezy for short, by her best friend, Lawrence Nightingale, who also has a nickname, Lumpy, as he’s a bit stocky. They met while playing in the sandbox years ago. Lumpy is a year older and in the 8th grade, while Wheezy is in 7th, but that doesn’t bother their friendship one bit. They’re almost inseparable, enjoying each other’s company and personalities. The one thing that really bothers Wheezy is how others make fun of Lumpy’s shape. One day while she was alone in a field enjoying the outdoors she met a magical little man named Unwanted, who convinced her he could grant her one wish. She makes a wish and suddenly things dramatically change. Wheezy is left thinking whether Unwanted works his magic for good or evil. The only way you’ll find out is by reading this amazing tale. The reader will fall in love with this story, cheering on Lumpy and feeling the heartbreak of Wheezy. The way the story is constructed there is no way to figure the outcome, it’s purely learned by reading all the way to the very end. As the intended readers would be 7th and 8th graders, this book holds a perfect little romance between two that’s akin to modern-day young romance, but comparable to the same fashion and power of a classic romantic fairytale. It is the type of tale the reader is not likely to soon forget.
For the most part, I liked this book. The story is a good one that teaches kids about friendship and not worrying about what others think about you. What matters most is how you see yourself and your friends and how they see you. When I started this book, I didn't realize it was the third in the series, so it was a bit confusing at first. I definitely recommend reading the other two books first so everything makes sense. While I liked the story, I didn't always like the writing style. I just didn't find it entertaining and thought it was often stilted. However, I am not sure if that is just my personal tastes coloring things. However, the way the author writes will introduce most kids to new vocabulary, which is always a good thing.Overall, a pretty good book.I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I was given this book for free to do a honest review. This is a book about Eloise who makes a wish for her best friend Lumpy who is a fat kid with sores on his lips. When Lumpy comes back changed Eloise who everyone calls Wheezy thinks she has lost her best friend. This book will teach kids of all ages that sometimes what you wish for can happen in a big way and what you see may not always be the truth. That some people may change on the outside but they are still the same on the inside and that your actions can hurt someone that you really care for. I also loved how this book rhymed a lot as it will keep kids more entertained. A really good book to read for all ages.
