A crush on her tutor could alienate her best friend. Can the star-crossed lovers keep their relationship secret, or is love even in the equation?
Everything is easier for Bek with her head in the clouds. With graduation and freedom in sight, it just might be possible for her to get out with her tremendous secret intact. But she must pass math first. Complications arise when time with her tutor increases her heart rate as well as her math skills. Being her best friend and future roommate’s brother, her tutor should be off-limits but as her feelings grow, Bek finds herself burdened with another secret.
Joel’s enjoying his new freedom and a new job. He’s not looking for trouble. If he’d known that an innocent offer to help a girl with her homework would threaten the only relationship he’s ever been able to count on, he’d have let the girl fail. Now he’s faced with a terrible choice between his heart and his sister.
Forbidden love comes with consequences. Will Joel’s gamble on his own happiness survive his sister’s feelings of betrayal or hold together the tenuous threads of his new relationship? For Bek, graduation won’t come soon enough. Her secret is going to be revealed in a matter of months and threatens her friendship, her budding relationship, and her entire future.

The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a profound and transformative experience that marks a significant milestone in every individual's life. As high school draws to a close, students find themselves on the cusp of a new chapter, filled with a complex mix of emotions—excitement, uncertainty, nostalgia, and anticipation. This pivotal moment represents more than just an academic transition; it is a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, where young people begin to forge their own identities, dreams, and paths. The bittersweet farewell to childhood friends, familiar routines, and the safety of a structured educational environment gives way to the vast, uncharted territories of adulthood, where personal growth, independence, and life-defining choices await.
This was an awesome book! The plot, the characters, the chemistry of Joel and Bek, and the pacing was well-done and excellent. The topic of overcoming the shame of our past circumstances is powerful and thought-provoking, giving the reader some insight into what living in abject poverty is like. There is drama, humor, love, restoration, forgiveness, and grace within the pages of this book. I highly recommend it. I received this book as an ARC preview and am leaving a voluntary, honest review.
I like the way Joel & Bek come together. It’s cute! I think that Joel balances Bek out. He is very patient & considerate of her & her circumstances & makes her grow/consider her life in a new light. I think Sam, Ava, & Bek also have a really strong friendship even after they find out Bek was holding back. If they didn’t care they wouldn’t have pulled away to try & get Bek to come to her own understanding. I liked this book pretty good & would have given it 4 stars except that I didn’t like that Bek’s Sadie Hawkins invites included a gay & a non binary. I wouldn’t have read this book if I had known that it included things like that ahead of time.
This is my fifth romcom in a short period of time. The others were solid but didn’t grip me and I was starting to get that “reading block” feeling. I needed a book that starts with “M” for a bingo board challenge and this was the first one up on my tbr that fit the bill.I already knew I liked this author as I’ve read the first book in this series already. I was thrilled to find that this is a best friend’s brother romance! One of my faaaav tropes. This is a sweet YA romance with real life issues. I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t want it There were a couple detractors for me: in the side characters there was a lesbian character and a non-binary character.
I voluntarily review an ARC of the box set 1-3."Math Geeks Don't Date Flighty Girls" is the third book of the Oak Grove High series, the books should be read in order.I loved the characters and their dynamic, the storyline and the tested friendships.I hate lying, but in this case it tended more to not telling the whole truth. This book made me laugh and cry. It is the best book of this series so far.
