When the new girl needs a plus one to shock her parents, she asks the guy in the spotlight. But her acting skills are called into play when she starts falling for him.
Tess is the new girl at Oak Grove High. Everything about her—black hair, thick eyeliner, dismissive attitude—is new since escaping her parents’ controlling clutches to come live with her aunt. After she learns she’ll face her parents at her aunt’s wedding, she turns to the school’s drama king for a double dose of goth-shock.
Kellen has strange family dynamics of his own. When Tess asks him to be her plus one, he ups the ante by asking her to be his fake girlfriend until after a gala honoring his parents. He doesn’t count on Tess shaking up his household even more.
It’s a fair deal. They both get something out of it. But Kellen is far too good an actor and Tess finds she must remind herself his solicitous attitude is all a ruse. And standing in his embrace as they learn to dance proves to be too much for her vulnerable heart.
Can Tess keep up the deception long enough to attend both events or will her underdeveloped acting skills doom their show before opening night?
If you like fake relationships, deadpan heroines, and misunderstandings you’ll love Drama Kings Don’t Date Goth Girls.

I was really not so sure if I should give 3 stars or more, but I decided to stick with 3 because there were a few things that really didn’t convince me and in all, this book was simply just okay.So what did I like? - I did like the characters and I just love that the author writes clean and mostly sweet YA romance. All books from the series tackle some sort of socio-political issues and sometimes it’s just a bit too on the nose for my taste. In this book I think Tessa’s background was so cliché and so was actually the situation at Kellen’s home. It was just too much and it got annoying. The way Tessa dressed also seemed completely contrary to what Tessa wanted to break free from. Her parents tried to dictate everything and her clothing should present the prim and proper daughter they wanted to have. So … instead of just being herself she decides to go goth..? I get she wanted to rebel a bit but it simply didn’t convince me and as someone who isn’t into fashion at all I found the many lengthy descriptions of her oh so amazing creations just pretty boring. The romance was cute, but nothing special or to swoon over. So I would only recommend this if you are actually into fashion or theatre.
Clean, intriguing, and exciting read. Fast flowing. Very enjoyable read. The series is great! Can’t wait to read the rest.
This is a great story. Your typical young adult high school romance with some interesting, thought provoking insight into the struggles of teens trying to figure out who they are.
I really loved this one...it really resonated with me. Finding peace within ourselves was a big focus and I realized how much others opinions has dictated my actions in life and how I view myself. It was really entertaining and held my attention. Very, very good!
